Child and Reproductive Health in Communities: A Global Environmental Perspective

Course Requirements: Graduate students.

Course Description:
This course examines global issues of child and reproductive health in relation to environmental factors in the interplay with socioeconomic and biological factors. Environmental influences are responsible for a quarter of the total burden of disease world-wide, and for more than one-third of the burden among children - most of them living in resource poor countries and communities. Impacts of qualitatively different - and potentially modifiable - factors such as access to safe water or urbanization will be discussed, as well as the environmental contribution to high burden outcomes in childhood and reproduction. The course will focus on lower income settings and discuss relevant population based approaches to assessment and intervention.
