Biographical Information

Mark S. Litwin is Professor of Health Services and Urology. He teaches courses in health care delivery systems, medical outcomes research, quality of life assessment, and clinical urologic oncology. Dr. Litwin earned a BS in economics from Duke University, his MD from Emory University, his MPH from UCLA, and trained in urological surgery at Harvard Medical School's Brigham and Women's Hospital. He spent two years as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at UCLA and RAND. Dr. Litwin's research interests include quality of care, medical outcomes, health-related quality of life, resource use, and preferences, all in patients with malignant and benign urological diseases. His work has been NIH-funded since 1997. His current projects include a $76 million award to provide prostate cancer care to low-income, uninsured men in California, a $17 million project exploring the epidemiological burden of urological diseases in America, and several longitudinal studies of quality of life after treatment for prostate cancer. He regularly mentors fellows, residents, and students in urological health services research.
