Biographical Information Dylan H. Roby, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of health services in the UCLA School of Public Health and a research scientist with the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research. Dr. Roby earned his Ph.D. in public policy from The George Washington University in 2006, and his B.A. in geography with a minor in public policy from UCLA in 1998. His research interests include health care affordability, access to care for the uninsured, impacts of managed care, use of safety net providers, and the effectiveness of disease management programs. Dr. Roby is currently working on a study of the characteristics of HMO enrollees for the Office of the Patient Advocate, as well as a study involving access to acute care for children in California's hospitals. He is also working on two projects evaluating state programs: a long-term evaluation of a chronic care disease management program for Medi-Cal and an evaluation of the Health Care Coverage Initiatives. Dr. Roby also teaches courses on the U.S. healthcare system, quality, and health information technology in the Certificate Program in Health Care Management and Leadership for the School of Public Health and UCLA Extension. Prior to joining the faculty at UCLA, Roby worked for five years as a senior researcher at the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research and for four years as a senior research associate at The George Washington University Center for Health Services Research and Policy. At GW, he worked on safety net issues, including data analysis and research on community health centers and public hospitals. Dr. Roby was also an instructor at The George Washington University Department of Health Policy. While an undergraduate, he was a research assistant at the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research.
