Professor Kraus has been engaged in injury research since the mid-1960s.  He has held appointed and elected positions in many professional societies, organizations and groups.  Currently, he is a member of the Motor Vehicle Safety Research Advisory Committee of the U.S. Department of Transportation and the World Health Organization Expert Advisory Panel on Accident Prevention.  He has undertaken numerous studies on motorcycle crashes, pedestrian injuries, work-related trauma and brain and spinal cord injuries.  He has more than 190 publications in the field.  He teaches three graduate courses on injury epidemiology and supervises five PhD and nine Masters students at UCLA.
