The Burroughs Wellcome Fund Inter-school Training Program in Metabolic Diseases
The Burroughs Wellcome Fund Inter-school Training Program in Metabolic Diseases is funded by the Burroughs Wellcome Fund and supports UCLA pre-doctoral students interested in pursuing a career in integrative science with special focus on studying the prevention of metabolic diseases-from the molecular level to the population level. By harnessing the major advances in biomedical sciences, this comprehensive interdisciplinary program brings together outstanding researchers and educators at UCLA to train a new generation of scientists capable of integrating population-based quantitative sciences with laboratory-based biological sciences to effectively lead the cross-disciplinary studies of the future.

Accepted pre-doctoral students receive full support for academic fees, travel and research expenses. In addition, the BWF-IT-MD program also provides its trainees with stipends and retreats to foster further academic and research collaborations.

Participating faculty represent various departments, divisions and schools throughout UCLA. They are all established leaders or outstanding educators and researchers in the fields of: epidemiology, biomathematics, statistics, pathology, human genetics, physiological sciences, molecular pharmacology, environmental health science, medicine, community health sciences and health services.

Ideal candidates for this program have goals of pursuing careers in interdisciplinary biomedical research, are enrolled graduate students pursuing a PhD.


LA/Fogarty AIDS International Training and Research Program
The UCLA/Fogarty AIDS International Training and Research Program,under the direction of Professor Roger Detels, provides support for training leading to the Master of Science and the Doctor of Philosophy degrees in epidemiology. Health professionals from India, China, Myanmar, Vietnam and Cambodia who are recommended by the program coordinators in their respective countries are eligible for consideration. Applicants must complete their field work in their home country and must guarantee to return to their country upon completion of the program.


UCLA/USC Pre-Doctoral and Post-Doctoral Fellowships in Molecular Genetic Epidemiology of Cancer
The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)/ University of Southern California (USC) Training Program in Molecular Genetic Epidemiology of Cancer is directed by Dr. Zuo-feng Zhang, and co-directed by Drs. Anna Wu, Roger Detels, and Thomas Mack. The training program, offered by the Department of Epidemiology, UCLA School of Public Health and the Department of Preventive Medicine, USC School of Medicine, is currently accepting applications for pre- and post-doctoral positions for the coming academic year. The deadline to submit all required materials is December 30th of each year.
