This 2˝ day course provides an intensive overview of the principles of occupational health nursing practice, comprehensive manuals, resource materials, and test taking techniques for those nurses preparing for the COHN.

Nurses preparing for the certification exam in Occupational Health Nursing

The objective of this course is to review the major administrative, clinical, and

preventive issues in occupational and environmental health nursing, and cover the major components of the certification exam in OHN including review of:

· Management, Coordinator, Consultant, Educator, Case Management, Clinical, and Advisor functions

· Strategic and Business planning systems

· Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of corporate, environmental health and safety needs–theoretical and conceptual foundations and benchmarking, TQM/CPI

· Perspectives in occupational diseases, illness/injury prevention, disability/case management and health promotion/education

· Principles of industrial hygiene, toxicology, safety and ergonomics

· Ethical, legal and regulatory issues–ADA, FMLA, W/C, OSHA, etc.

· Financial systems–cost effective analysis, cost benefit analysis, budgeting and measuring value

· Research and Epidemiology in OHN

· Key elements contained in AAOHN's Core Curriculum and Standards of Occupational and Environmental Health Nursing

· Test taking strategies and techniques
