TENURE LADDER FACULTY AND DIRECTOR OF INJURY PREVENTION RESEARCH CENTER
The School of Public Health, University of California, Los Angeles and the UCLA Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH), are seeking applications for the position of a tenure ladder faculty to serve as the Director of the Southern California Injury Prevention Research Center (SCIPRC). The candidate should preferably hold an M.D. or Ph.D. with advanced training in epidemiology or related fields, have demonstrated experience and leadership in conducting injury prevention research, and have proven to be capable of obtaining extramural funding. The appointment is expected to be made at the Associate Professor or Professor level.
Areas of research interest may also include etiologic risk factor identification in occupational/environmental health and/or ergonomics. Applicants are expected to teach in injury control and/or epidemiology or related fields and to mentor graduate students at the masters and doctoral levels. A successful applicant’s role as the Center Director would be to maintain leadership of the Injury Center core activities including its research agenda, training program, and service to the community.
The SCIPRC is one of 10 regional Centers funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, whose mission is to study intentional and unintentional injuries in minority, socio-economically disadvantaged and underserved populations. Six faculty investigators currently conduct research affiliated with the Center. The Center has three post-doctoral researchers, along with 12 staff and student researchers. Current annual extramural funding totals $1.6 million. The core CDC Center grant of $0.9 million per year is due for competitive renewal on August 1, 2009.
