Research News from Alumni
If you… From
the Dean's Desk
Known to many as “Mr. Public Health,” Dr. Lester Breslow, professor
emeritus of health services and dean emeritus of the school, helped set
the course in the 1960s for modern thinking about health, diet and fitness.
Today he continues to be the School’s personal role model for healthy
behaviors and their effect on well-being.
We are most excited to honor Dr. Breslow at the 30th Anniversary of the
Lester Breslow Distinguished Lecture on Monday, April 19 at Covel Commons.
Dr. Breslow will be the speaker of distinction as he presents “The
Third Revolution in Health: Implications for Public Health.”
Additionally, it’s my pleasure to announce this year’s inductees
into the School’s Alumni Hall of Fame. The outstanding alumni will
be honored for their accomplishments during the celebrations of the Breslow
evening. The newest inductees are: For Professional Achievement
Stanley P. Azen, Ph.D.'69 For Community Service
Robert J. Kim-Farley, M.D., M.P.H.'75
Angela E. Oh, J.D., M.P.H.'81
Irwin J. Shorr, M.P.H.'72, M.P.S
I hope you will join us for this milestone event.
With warm regards,
Linda Rosenstock, M.D., M.P.H.
Dean
Note: If you would like to receive an invitation and have not attended a
Breslow Lecture within the last three years, please send your current mailing
address to publichealth@support.ucla.edu.
Public Health Alumni Association (PHAA)
From the PHAA President
As graduates of the UCLA School of Public Health, we are all members of
the Public Health Alumni Association (PHAA). The Association strives to
keep alumni connected with one another and the School and to provide meaningful
opportunities for continued learning.
Through activities that the PHAA board members are planning over the next
few years, your alumni association is building upon connections that exist
among the School, its alumni, its current student body and the greater public
health community. By working together to develop these relationships, public
health opportunities for both students and alumni are greatly improved,
thereby making the School a much greater resource for all.
As a result, your involvement in the School is important to us. When we
hear from you, we tailor alumni programs and interactions to meet your needs.
I hope you will e-mail us at phaa@support.ucla.edu
to keep us informed of your interests and to stay in touch with your School
and your fellow classmates through the Public Health Alumni Association.
Best wishes,
Chris Mardesich, J.D., M.P.H.’98
