Student Diversity Awards
Two and Three Year Projects funded by The California Endowment and The
California Wellness Foundation.
We are pleased to announce funding received from TCE and TCWF for UCLA
School of Public Health efforts to increase the diversity of the public health
workforce by training public health professionals committed to providing much
needed health services to traditionally underserved areas in Los Angeles.
The funds provide for a total of 23 substantial stipends to new and returning
in-state students over the course of the next three years. Important
outreach, recruitment and community service efforts are also supported by these
funds. An Introduction to Public Health Course will be offered with the
goal of heightening awareness regarding the field of public health among diverse
populations of students who otherwise may not be exposed to the field. To
be offered annually in South Los Angeles, the course is cost-free for high
school and community college students. Successful completion provides four
(transferable) credits through UCLA Extension. Additionally, the school
will implement formal mentorship programs with community partners, including the
Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
Dr. Linda Rosenstock, Dean of the UCLA School of Public Health serves as the
Primary Investigator for both of these awards.
Activites conducted in conjunction with these awards are coordinated through
CEHD. If you have any questions or would like additional information,
please contact Alison Herrmann at
