ESSENTIAL INFORMATION FOR NEW
STUDENTS
BruinCard (Student Photo ID)
The BruinCard is the official UCLA identification
card issued free to all students. Many services are accessible with this
card, including access to the Wooden Center. The replacement cost for lost/stolen cards is $22
and is charged to your BAR account. Report lost or stolen cards at the BruinCard website
http://www.bruincard.ucla.edu.
To obtain a BruinCard, you must have a
government-issued identification card and go to a BruinCard Center. Hours
are 9 AM to 4 PM Monday through Friday.

Computer Facilities/Access
Public Health students have access to computing
and printing in the Technology and Learning Center (TLC) which is located on
the 2nd floor of the Biomedical Library. You must apply for an
account at the TLC. The TLC website contains detailed information on access
to the lab at

Email Accounts and Bruin OnLine
Access
All students are required to have email accounts.
Announcements will be distributed via email. To set up your Bruin OnLine
account, go to:
http://www.bol.ucla.edu/services/accounts/info/create.html.
Bruin OnLine is available for PC/Windows or
Macintosh computers. Once you have created an account, you can download
other software you might need from the BOL home page. If you already have
Internet software, you may obtain configuration instructions from OAC
Consulting or the BOL home page at
http://www.bol.ucla.edu.

Health, Safety, & Security
Student Health Services
(SHS) is an outpatient clinic designed especially
for UCLA students and is located at the Arthur Ashe Student Health and
Wellness Center (adjacent to the Wooden Center). You may be seen by
appointment or on a walk-in basis. Most, but not all, services are prepaid
by registration and insurance fees. To be eligible to use the Ashe Center,
you must be either a currently registered student or one who was registered
or graduated in the previous academic term. The SHS website is

Free Escort Service
Free Escort Service
is provided by the UCLA Police Department every
day of the year from dusk until 1 AM. Uniformed escorts, specially trained
students employed by the UCLA Police Department, are available to walk
students, faculty and staff members between campus buildings and local
living areas or Westwood Village. Call (310) 794-WALK about 15-20 minutes

Free Evening Van Service
Free Evening Van Service is provided around campus, Monday through

Lockers
Lockers within the School of Public Health (on
A-level and 2nd through 7th
floors) are available to all Public Health
students. Locker assignments are handled by the School of Public Health
Dean’s Office in 16-035 CHS, on a first-come, first-served basis.
Mail Folders
CHS students have mail folders in the CHS
Department, room 36-070C. Flyers and mail arriving at the CHS office will be
placed in your folder. You should check your mail folder regularly. Also,
check the bulletin boards outside the Department office for information on
courses, seminars, workshops, fellowships and scholarships, and job
bulletins. Do NOT have personal mail sent to the department.
Parking Information
To obtain quarterly deadline dates and
information on how to apply for a parking permit, you can either go to
http://www.transportation.ucla.edu/, call Parking & Commuter Service at (310)
825-9871, or go in person to 555 Westwood Plaza.
Websites
You
will receive a large amount of information from the University stating
deadlines, offering opportunities, etc. It is your responsibility to observe the
deadlines, and take any action that is required. This is especially important
for items such as work-study, financial aid, traineeships, and filing dates.
