TOOLS FOR CHS 247

There are several useful resources for public health professionals interested in population on the web.

SPECTRUM

This is a population projection program developed by the Futures Group that we will use in CHS 247.  To use it, you must download it from the web and install it in your computer.  We will use the DemProj portion of the software, but keep in mind that this program also does a number of other types of projections or simulations which you should know about.  Make sure to read the description of the program.

To access SPECTRUM and it's description, go to:
http://www.tfgi.com/spec.asp

EASEVAL

This is a data analysis program also developed by the Futures Group to facilitate the evaluation of Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS).  DHS is an international program of nationally-representative surveys in countries in Latin America, Asia and Africa.  We will not use this program in class, but you may want to use it for your term paper. or in the future.

Information is available at:  http://www.tfgi.com/easeval.asp

MEASURE Tools

The MEASURE Project also has several tools that are useful for practitioners involved in family planning, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, and child survival programs.  We will not use this program in class, but you may want to use it for your term paper. or in the future.

Information is available at: http://www.cpc.unc.edu/measure/topics/tools/tools.html

UNICEF

UNICEF has also posted guides to evaluation of maternal and child survival programs.  See their website at http://www.unicef.org/reseval/methodr.html
