Professor (Department of Epidemiology), joined the School of Public Health
in 1980. He received a B.A. in life science (1959) and M.S. in health
science (1963) from Sacramento State College, a M.P.H. in occupational
health from the University of California, Berkeley (1964) and Ph.D. in
environmental epidemiology from the University of Minnesota (1967). Dr.
Kraus served as Associate, the Acting Director of the COEH (then called
the Southern Occupational Health Center) from 1980-1989. He developed
and directs the Southern California Injury Prevention Research Center
(SCIPRC).
Dr. Kraus' major research interest is injury from environmental and occupational
related exposures. His current research includes: Epidemiology of neurotrauma;
childhood injury mortality; motor vehicle related trauma; occupational
fatalities and non-fatal injuries; unintentional injuries; suicide, homicide
and assaultive injuries.
