Professor (Environmental Health Sciences), was appointed to the School of Public Health in 1989. His B.S. (1968) and M.S. (1971) in physical chemistry/ biochemistry are from the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. He obtained his Ph.D. (1976) in the environmental analytical chemistry of pesticides from the University of Saskatchewan. He has published a book on the phenoxy herbicides, the first textbook on biological monitoring and the first textbook on identification and analysis of hazardous waste. He has also published nearly 130 articles in the scientific literature.

Dr. Que Hee's teaching interests include courses on biological monitoring, gases and vapors, industrial hygiene, environmental chemistry, instrumental methods, and hazardous waste. His research interests complement his teaching. His major interests include environmental/industrial hygiene analytical chemistry with emphasis on gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry, metal speciation, and biological monitoring. His other interests include permeation of chemicals through protective garments and gloves, hazardous waste chemical analysis, direct reading devices including instruments and passive monitors/samplers, gas/vapor detection through screening tests, workplace protection factors of respirators, smokeless tobacco toxicity, bioassay-directed chemical analysis of complex biological and environmental media, and broad multidisciplinary research involving chemical analysis.

He serves on a number of important national scientific committees: the biological monitoring committee of the American Industrial Hygiene Association; the joint editorial board of Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater; and is Chairperson of a national committee to develop regulations based on skin exposure of chemicals.
