The "UCLA-Mexico/Latin America Training and Research Program" (UCLA-Fogarty Program) has focused on the development of training and research related to environmental and occupational health in Mexico since 1995. The grant received is one of thirteen awarded by the Fogarty International Training Center of NIH, in collaboration with the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). A major goal of the program has been to train scientists to effectively address environmental and occupational issues through research in epidemiology, toxicology, medicine, environmental chemistry, occupational hygiene/exposure assessment, ergonomics and other related areas. Through its various activities, hundreds of Mexican students, professionals and government officials have received valuable information and training and important research findings have been reported. |
