Dr. Cicero-Fernandez is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Environmental Health Sciences. He received a B.S. in Environmental Engineering (1984) from the Metropolitan University of Mexico City. He participated in professional training residencies with Environment Canada in the Wastewater Technology Center in Burlington, Ontario (1981), and later in Japan on Industrial Pollution Control with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (1987). He received an M.P.H. in Environmental Health Sciences (1990) and a D.Env. in Environmental Sciences and Engineering (1995) from UCLA. His academic and professional interests are in human exposure assessment to atmospheric pollutants, air quality analysis, impact of real-world driving and environmental conditions on the motor vehicle emission inventory, and more recently, in the application of geographic information systems (GIS) as a tool for environmental evaluation. He has served in the International Expert Advisory Panel for Continental Pollutant Pathways, in the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (1996-97) and as a technical advisor for the Panamerican Health Organization (1999), and the Mexico City Government (1992 to the present). He currently holds a research position in the California Air Resources Board, Mobile Source Control Division (1995 to the present).
