DESCRIPTION

Adjunct Professor, faculty member since 1996 in the Department of Epidemiology at the UCLA School of Public Health.  Director of the Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention, Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

COURSE

412 Public Health Surveillance (2 units)

Lecture, two hours.  Requisites: course 100 or 200, Biostatistics 100A.  Overview of public health suveillance methodology, including (1) design, implementation, and evaluation of surveillance systems, (2) analysis and interpretation of surveillance data, and (3) application of surveillance methods to specific health-related outcomes.  Letter grading.

MAJOR DISCIPLINE

Epidemiology, pediatrics, and chronic disease

MAJOR RESEARCH INTEREST

Chronic disease and injury epidemiology, public health surveillance, population health assessment, child health.

CURRENT RESEARCH INTEREST

Child and adult obesity epidemics, community health profiles, burden of disease analysis, chronic disease risk factors, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, built environment, and public health.
