BRIEF HISTORY DURING THE SNOW ERA (1813-58)
The Bryanston (spelled "Bryanstone" on the map) square was created in 1812 on the Portman estate, and takes its name from Bryanston, the Portman family seat in Dorset. Mustapha Pasha Reschid, Turkish statesman and reformer, lived here in 1839 when he was the ambassador to Turkey.
