BRIEF HISTORY DURING THE SNOW ERA (1813-58)

In 1817, a cricket ground was established by Lord Byron (1788-1824), the British poet and politician. The first pavilion was a one room building.  It was burned down in 1825 during a match between Harrow and Winchester, but was rebuilt shortly thereafter.
