PREFACE

This work of historical fiction is based on the medical discoveries of the British scientist Dr. John Snow. The cholera epidemic and Dr. Snow's research in epidemiology and anesthesiology happened as portrayed. The majority of events in the book, however, and all characters other than John Snow, are inventions of the author.

References to the John Snow site are blue underlined words and text written in red, both created by Professor Ralph R. Frerichs.  They will appear throughout, drawing attention to events, people and locations.  Such links and narrations provide a union between artistic fiction and historical fact, and encourage further discovery in the ever-expanding world of John Snow.
