Overview:

Participants become familiar with all aspects of occupational hearing conservation programs including noise measurement and control, anatomy and physiology of the auditory system, hearing protection and employee education.  OSHA standards, Workers’ Compensation and other state and federal regulations are discussed.  Students participate in hands-on manual hearing testing under the supervision of experienced practicum instructors.  You will learn to identify standard threshold shifts and audiograms that may require follow-up.  Different types and brands of equipment are demonstrated.  Upon successful course completion, students are eligible to apply for CAOHC Re-certification.

Who should attend:

Occupational health nurses and physicians, safety professionals, health technicians and other personnel involved in audiometric testing.  Enrollment is limited to 24.  

Agenda/Topics:

As a result of participating, you will be able to:

·  Accurately perform manual audiometric testing

·  Identify an invalid test and determine standard threshold shifts

·  Identify various types of audiometers, their advantages and disadvantages

·  Identify applicable OSHA standards, laws, regulations

  • Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider CEP #11558, for 22.8 contact hours. 
  • General credit: Continuing Education Units—2.0. 
  • The full course has been awarded 2.5 CM points by  ABIH, approval #14406 and 1.5 COC points by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.
