Overview:

This course will provide instruction in all aspects of spirometry through lectures, practicums and testing.  This NIOSH-approved course has been developed according to current American Thoracic Society standards for pulmonary function testing.

Who should attend:

Training is intended for occupational health nurses, physicians, technicians, industrial hygienists, and others responsible for performing accurate pulmonary function testing of employees.

Agenda/Topics:

As a result of attending these workshops, you should be able to:

  • Describe the value of spirometry testing in clinical and occupational settings
  • Describe and instruct on the basic anatomy and physiology relevant to spirometry
  • Perform spirometry and interpret results
  • Calculate correctly FVC, FEV1, FEV1/FVC, FEF25-75% and compare with predicted normals

  • General credit: Continuing Education Units—1.5. 
  • The full course has been awarded 2.5 CM points by  ABIH, approval #14407 and 1.5 COC points by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.
