In conjunction with University of Michigan

Dates: Location:
June 24-25, 2008 UCLA, Faculty Center

Fee:

Regular Fee: $595

Early Bird: $495 (register no later than May 20, 2008)

Overview:

DESCRIPTION AND GOALS

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSD’s) are a leading cause of worker disability and compensation. Prevention of MSD disability requires participation of managers, supervisors, workers, engineers, ergonomists, safety professionals and health care providers. A multidisciplinary group of practitioners and researchers will describe current research and ergonomics programs and approaches utilized in a variety of industries and companies, including those associated with work in hotel, tourism and typically low-wage employment situations. The goal of this 2-day symposium is to provide medical and other health and safety professionals with knowledge of ergonomics principles that can be applied to facilitate the safe and productive employment of individuals. Attendees will learn how ergonomics interventions can be used to prevent musculoskeletal injuries so that they can pursue effective interventions in their own work settings.

OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Identify risk factors for MSD’s and delayed recovery
- Cite current research findings with hotel, low wage and other workers
- Identify interventions for housekeepers, patient handlers, and other workers
- Discuss key ergonomic issues in a variety of occupations
- Identify organizational ergonomic strategies and programs to address MSD’s

Who Should Attend:

This course is intended for those who are responsible for the prevention of injuries and illnesses in the workplace, particularly: safety and health personnel; industrial hygienists; occupational health physicians and nurses; industrial, manufacturing and workplace design engineers; management and labor representatives; and physical and occupational therapists working with industry.
