The Summer Fun and Fitness Camp is a nutrition- and physical fitness-focused educational summer camp for children in Inglewood. The summer camp is a program of the Inglewood Inspiration Nutrition and Fitness Project which is funded through a California Nutrition Network Faith Channel Grant to Holy Faith Episcopal Church in Inglewood. The Inglewood Inspiration Nutrition and Fitness Project is one of several projects of the African-American 5-a-Day Campaign of the California Nutrition Network. The 2003 Summer Fun and Fitness Camp took place over the four-week period from July 7, 2003 through August 1, 2003. Participants ranged in age from 5 – 12 years old and the camp was held at Holy Faith Episcopal Church located at 260 North Locust Street in Inglewood, California.

My internship was spent coordinating the Summer Fun and Fitness Camp 2003 and working as the youth nutrition educator. Working with a second UCLA Master of Public Health Intern, Judith Mercado, I planned and implemented the Summer Fun and Fitness Camp 2003. The goal of the summer camp is to improve the health and well-being of the camp participants through nutrition education and physical fitness promotion. Additionally, I developed and carried out an evaluation of the camp. The evaluation was designed to determine the effectiveness of teaching nutrition and physical fitness education in a summer camp environment.

My preceptor was Dr. Joanne Leslie, who serves as the Project Director of the Inglewood Inspiration Nutrition and Fitness Project.
