Field Placement: The Measurement
Group (TMG)
Location: Culver City, CA
Preceptor: Le Quach, M.P.H
Student Name: Marcia Suzuki
Year: 2003
My internship was spent at The Measurement Group (TMG) in Culver City, CA, a consulting firm that specializes in evaluation and information dissemination. My work consisted of conducting analysis of qualitative data from two different studies. One study examined the outcome reports from an evaluation from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Projects which are funded by the John A. Hartford Foundation. The second study examined final reports and scholarly journals from projects/programs funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) initiative entitled, Special Projects of National Significance (SPNS) which focused on HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment programs.
My work was supervised primarily by Le Quach, M.P.H. who served as the study coordinator for both studies. However, the project director, George Huba, Ph.D, also provided supervision and guidance for the data collection and analysis.
The evaluation of the programs was conducted in order to identify outcomes and determine whether the programs’ respective goals and objectives were met. The results of the analysis will also affect future funding of these and additional programs.
The results from the analysis of the AACN data was presented to the funder during an on-site visit through graphical tables showing the different themes that emerged from the activities, outcomes, and lessons learned from each of the programs. Unfortunately, due to the sheer size of the HRSA SPNS project, which aims to examine over 105 programs, only 60% was completed during the internship period.
