I had an opportunity to work at the UCLA Center for Reproductive Health Services as a Title X intern. The UCLA Center for Reproductive Health Services is affiliated with the UCLA OB-GYN Clinic – a teaching center for residents. The center is partially funded by Title X federal grants. Title X is designed to provide access to contraceptives and information, with priority given to low-income clients. The family planning/STD education component at the Center is funded through the Title X.

My preceptor was Dr. Angela Chen, the medical director of the OB-GYN Clinic. I also had the opportunity to work closely with Gita Patel, the program manager.

I provided family planning and STI education and counseling to the patients of the clinic. New clinic services and a new resident training program began at the clinic during my internship. Additionally, the clinic underwent changes in clinic operation. I assisted the program manager in program development activities and organizational management, both for the new program start-up and the reorganization of the clinic.
