AETNA SUSAN B. ANTHONY AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN RESEARCH ON OLDER WOMEN & PUBLIC HEALTH
An overriding goal of the Aetna Susan B. Anthony Award For Excellence in Research on Older Women
and Public Health award is to recognize individuals who make a significant contribution to research on
women’s unique health concerns and the role that public health strategies play in improving the health and
well-being of American women.

BETTY J. CLECKLEY MINORITY ISSUES RESEARCH AWARD
The purpose of the Betty J. Cleckley Minority Issues Research award is to recognize individuals and their
research efforts that have the potential to improve the health and functional status of older people who are
members of diverse ethnic or cultural groups.

NOBUO MAEDA INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH AWARD
The Nobuo Maeda International Research award is for research on topics pertaining to international aging
and public health. The award is intended to recognize and further the career of leaders in international
research and policy development.

RETIREMENT RESEARCH FOUNDATION MASTERS STUDENT RESEARCH AWARD and
LAURENCE G. BRANCH DOCTORAL STUDENT RESEARCH AWARD

These two awards, both funded by the Retirement Research Foundation, honor outstanding students for
exceptional research during their training. Individuals honored by these awards have completed a
research project as a student. Research projects are completed in the areas of gerontology, aging, chronic
illness and disability in adults, long-term care, or geriatrics.

AGING AND RURAL HEALTH RESEARCH AWARD
The purpose of the Aging And Rural Health Research award is to recognize individuals in public health
research and their research efforts that have the potential to improve the health and functional status of
older people who live in rural America.

JAMES G. ZIMMER NEW INVESTIGATOR RESEARCH AWARD
The James G. Zimmer New Investigator Research Award recognizes “new investigators”, which is defined
as someone who is within three years of completing a terminal degree. The award is intended to recognize
and further the careers of future leaders in research.

ARCHSTONE FOUNDATION AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN PROGRAM INNOVATION
The Archstone Foundation Award For Excellence in Program Innovation recognizes best practice models
in the field of aging and health. Emphasis is given to those programs in operation 10 years or less, but
long enough to have documented results, that have effectively linked academic theory with applied
practice in the field of public health and aging.

PHILIP WEILER AWARD FOR LEADERSHIP
The GHS Leadership Award recognizes the best of past and present leadership concerned with ensuring
the highest quality of life for our older population. Those eligible for this award have provided leadership in
the field of gerontological health, and include, but are not limited to, public officials, policy makers,
practitioners, teachers, researchers, and funders.

GHS LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
The GHS Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes individuals and organizations that have made a
significant contribution to public service, scholarship, or science in the areas of geriatrics and gerontology.
It is expected that the awardee(s) will have made a substantial contribution over their profess
ional careers
