The UCLA chapter of ACHE coordinates an array of activities
for both members and nonmembers. These are just a few of the many
events at which we look forwarding to see you!
Programming
ACHE's programming events provide a medium for students to network with
an array of health care organizations and to learn about the opportunities
available to public health students. For further information on
programming events please contact Katie Wood.
Student Executive Forums - ACHE
arranges for students to meet with top executives of health care
organizations and spend the day at their health care facility. Some
sites that students have visited in the past include Harriman Jones
Medical Group, Kaiser Permanente of Riverside, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center,
and Health Net.
Brown Bags - Brown bags are generally
held during lunchtime, which gives many students an opportunity to attend.
ACHE recruits professionals from the health care industry to hold forums
such as resume workshops and information sessions on potential careers in
the industry.
HPMAA Mixer - This mixer is an annual
event where ACHE collaborates with the Health Policy and Management Alumni
Association (HPMAA). It gives the Health Services students an
opportunity to network with Health Services alumni and other students.
Even more important than the networking is the free food and drinks that are
provided! This year the event is on October 8, 2003 at the Westwood
Brewing Co.
Community Service
As future professionals in health care, the UCLA chapter of ACHE is
committed to giving back to our community. We are always looking for
new volunteers so please contact Sue Dao if you are interested.
ID Fingerprinting at Bresee - Last
year ACHE participated in ID fingerprinting at the Bresee Foundation. At
this event, ACHE members, the Los Angeles Police, and community volunteers
fingerprinted and took pictures of children 18 years old and younger.
Health advocates of the foundation sponsored this event.
The Revlon Run/Walk for Women - Last
year a team of students from the UCLA chapter of ACHE participated in the
Revlon Run/Walk for Women. It is an annual fundraising event in Los
Angeles to raise breast cancer awareness and celebrate the fight against
women's cancers. The 11th Annual Revlon Run/Walk For Women is planned for
Saturday, May 8, 2004 and we look forward to you joining our team!
Fundraising
ACHE supports most of its activities through the student chapter's
fundraising efforts. These efforts are not only a great way to raise
funds but also serve as great social outlets. If you are
interested in helping us raise funds for ACHE please contact Stephanie Cha.
Bagel sales - ACHE holds multiple
bagel sales throughout the year in the Health Sciences courtyard. This
event not only gives us a chance to raise funds for the organization but
also allows us to get our name out into the Health Sciences community at
UCLA.
TV Tapings - Get paid to watch a
television taping! ACHE coordinates with local television stations to
have its members attend television tapings. Last year we enjoyed
watching the taping of Primetime Glick with Martin Short.
Social
In an attempt to further unify both members and nonmembers of ACHE, the
chapter coordinates an array of social events throughout the year.
Wine Social - Last year a local wine
distributor educated students about proper wine etiquette. After his
presentation the students enjoyed an evening of wine tasting.
ACHE BBQ - The ACHE BBQ was held in
the Spring of 2003. This event gave first and second year students a
break from studying and allowed them to spend time with one another before
parting ways for the summer
