Building Health Futures by increasing the equity, effectiveness and efficiency of health services to all populations.

MISSION

The Mission of the Department of Health Services is to develop the next generation of leaders in the health sector by conducting the highest quality research, educating health professionals in policy, management and public health practice, and partnering with the community to disseminate and apply new knowledge.

GOALS

The Department of Health Services is committed to realizing our mission by achieving and continually improving our research, education and service goals:

RESEARCH

  • Develop new ideas, theories and practices that contribute to improving the population’s health and the personal health of individuals;
  • Produce research findings advancing the field of health services research;
  • Understand and improve the performance of health institutions in the United States and globally;

EDUCATION

  • Provide Masters level education to develop professionals who will play important roles in public and private institutions involved with the organization, financing and delivery of health services and aimed at developing legislation and regulations that will improve the health of individuals and communities;
  • Provide Doctoral level education for professionals who will:
    • Conduct research, evaluation and teaching in the delivery, cost and effectiveness of health services;
    • Lead public health organizations committed to improving the health of our diverse and multi-cultural population;

  • Provide continuing professional education to the greater regional health care community by sponsoring extra-curricular seminars and conferences that meet the continuing education needs of health professionals;
  • Enroll a high quality diverse group of individuals committed to careers in health policy, organization and management;
  • Assist students to obtain advanced professional positions in health management and policy;

SERVICE

  • Share our knowledge and skills as academics with the greater university and general community through consulting, service and partnership.

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

  • Maintain a self-reflective organizational environment engaged in ongoing evaluation, assessment and improvement.
