Dr. Jeffrey H. Miller elected to American Academy of Arts & Sciences

Dr. Jeffrey H. Miller was one of the 212 Americans just elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. The academy was founded in 1780 by John Adams and John Hancock and others and prides itself on electing the leading "thinkers and doers from each generation". This year's class of new members includes scientists, humanists, politicians, business people and artists - Jeffrey will join Dave Brubeck, Ken Burns, Bob Dylan, and Paul Simon in his induction in October in Cambridge, MA.

Dr. Marie-Francoise Chesselet Selected as New Fellow of the AAAS

Dr. Marie-Francoise Chesselet, a faculty member of the Molecular Toxicology IDP has been selected as a new fellow by the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The AAAS is the world's largest general scientific society and the publisher of the journal Science. The selection of fellows has been an AAAS tradition since 1874. Dr. Chesselet is among 503 scholars chosen this year for scientifically and socially meritorious applications of their work, according to the AAAS. She will receive official recognition Feb. 19, 2011 at the society's annual meeting, in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Oliver Hankinson Wins SOT Award

Professor Oliver Hankinson, Director of the UCLA Molecular Toxicology interdepartmental doctoral program, has been awarded the Society of Toxicology's 2011 Distinguished Toxicology Scholar Award. This award is presented annually to an active scientist "who has made substantial and seminal scientific contributions to our understanding of the science of toxicology." Dr. Hankinson will be presented with the award at the 50th anniversary meeting of the Society of Toxicology, in Washington DC on March 18, 2011.

Mol Tox Team Wins IM Championship

The "Toxic Substances" team recently won the 2010 UCLA Intramural Co-Rec Flag Football Championship. The Toxic Substances were also champions in 2004, 2006 and 2007.
