Admission Requirements

The MPH for Health Professionals (MPH/HP) applicants are expected to fulfill the minimum requirements for admission to the School of Public Health. In addition, the applicant should have three years of professional experience or its full-time equivalent in a public health or health-related field.

Requirements:

  • Meet the university minimum requirements of an acceptable bachelor's degree with a 3.0 grade point average (B) in upper division courses.
  • Satisfactory performance on the verbal and quantitative sections of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) taken within the last five years. There is no minimum combined score requirement for the GRE. As a guideline, the average GRE scores for those offered admission to the Department are 550 Verbal and 640 Quantitative.* The analytical writing section is not heavily weighted.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years professional work experience (or its full-time equivalent) in a public health or health related field.
  • Foreign students muat have a satisfactory score on the Test of English as a Second Language (TOEFL) taken within the last three years. It is required for international applicants whose primary language of instruction is not English and who have not completed their undergraduate work from an American University. TOEFL scores of at least 560 on the paper and pencil test or 220 on the computer-based test is the minimum required for applicants to graduate programs at UCLA. For the internet-based TOEFL (KTOEFL iBT), the following are minimum passing scores for each section and the minimum total passing score: Writing: 25, Speaking, 24, Reading: 21, Listening, 17. Total minimum passing score: 87 . Scores must be no more than two years old.
  • *MCAT or DAT scores are accepted for applicants already holding MD or DDS degrees, or currently enrolled in medical or dental school.
