*Linking School of Public Health faculty with agencies to promote health in multicultural and underserved communities
Goals of the Office of Public Health Practice
- To establish practice linkages with health agencies to develop teaching, training and research opportunities.
- To provide technical assistance to health agencies at all levels.
- To develop paid, extended internships for students in agencies serving multicultural and underserved communities.
- To develop innovative projects in response to the needs of local communities.
- To improve continuing education opportunities for public health professionals.
New Collaboratives
The Office of Public Health Practice has many projects for the upcoming academic year. In partnership with the County of Los Angeles Immunization Program, we are pleased to announce a new demonstration project, in which we will seek to train and empower women in a local community to become partners in our health promotion efforts. This project will utilize an "Empowerment Model" of health promotion to encourage new mothers to bring their babies in for their childhood immunization series. Utilizing a model of this type in multicultural community will encourage mothers and other members of the community to plan, implement and adopt the program so that its health benefits can become cultural norms in the community.
For more information on the empowerment model, check out our list of
empowerment references.
