The applicant must have graduated from a medical school in the United
States which at the time of the applicant's graduation was accredited by
the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, a school of osteopathic medicine
approved by the American Osteopathic Association, an accredited medical
school in Canada, or from a medical school located outside the United States
and Canada that is deemed satisfactory to the Board.
Before beginning the program, the applicant must have completed a year
of supervised postgraduate clinical training provided as part of a graduate
medical education program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate
Medical Education (ACGME). Clinical training accredited by the Royal College
of Physicians and Surgeons or the College of Family Physicians of Canada
is also acceptable. The training must include at least six months of direct
primary patient care comprising ambulatory and inpatient experience.
All applicants must be eligible for licensure to practice medicine
in the State of California, and those who are not currently licensed in
California must have begun the process of obtaining such a license. Please
Note: A California medical license is a prerequisite to beginning this
program.
Admission to the residency for the academic
year is contingent upon admission to the School of Public Health in an
appropriate degree program. Applicants who have previously received a Master
of Public Health or equivalent degree in a program approved by the Association
of Schools of Public Health may apply directly for the practicum
year.
