BIOGRAPHY

Kathryn Martin, PhD, received her MPH and PhD from the Department of Epidemiology in the UCLA School of Public Health. She is interested in research on injuries and violence as they relate to maternal, child, and adolescent health, methods in injury surveillance, and data management and statistical analysis using SAS. In her dissertation she examined the relationship between co-sleeping and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). At SCIPRC, she has also been engaged in a large-scale evaluation of an intervention designed to mitigate the negative effects of media violence among adolescents. Prior to working at UCLA she was an Epidemiology Analyst at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health's Injury and Violence Prevention Program where she coordinated the National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS) during its first years of funding in Los Angeles County. She is active in the Western Users of SAS Software (WUSS) regional SAS user group, and has presented papers and served as a section chair at WUSS conferences.
