The Undergraduate Health Sciences Organization: for Social
Medicine and Public Health (UHSO) is sponsored by the UCLA School
of Public Health's Department of Health Services. Our faculty
advisor is Dr.Milton Roemer, a professor at UCLA since 1962.
He has served at all levels of health administration-as a County
and State Health Officer, an officer for the U.S. Public Health
Service, and as a Section Chief for the World Health Organization.
He taught previously at Cornell and Yale Universities and has
been honored for his distinguished service in public health.
The organization welcomes membership from all undergraduates at UCLA, who are interested in a social approach to problems in health and medicine. We believe that discussing these issues will make us better doctors, nurses, and other types of health professionals. Our mission is to educate and to learn about the political and social aspects of the health field from an approach as future health professionals. At our meetings we encourage active participation, communication, innovation, and professionalism through intense discussions, debates, and community projects. UHSO undergraduate members range from all career types in the health field, and all believe in preparing to deliver quality care to all people. Our interest ranges from Managed Care to Bio-ethics, with an attempt to better understand people as patients and the future course of the health field. |
